Simple Ways to Get Cozy this Winter

Winter has arrived, and if you're anything like me, that means you're hunkering down indoors, far from the chilly winds, ice, and snow. But, let's face it — being cooped up inside for months on end can start to drive you a little stir-crazy. So, why not take this opportunity to transform your space into the ultimate cozy retreat? Who wants to spend days at home in a cold, uninviting space? Not me, and I bet not you either!
I am a fiend for comfort and cozy, whether it’s my surroundings, food, or bundling up with a book, a show, or a nice cozy game to play.
I’ve put together a list of easy ways to turn your home — or even just a cozy corner — into a warm, welcoming haven. And who knows, when the weather warms up, you might just find that you’ve fallen so in love with your cozy space, you’ll never want to leave it!
Replace harsh lights with warm toned bulbs or fairy lights. Or, better yet, depending on the type of lights that you have, you could even use THESE, they mimic fires and are perfect for some coziness.
Add layers. I give you permission to buy a few nice throw blankets and maybe some comfy cushions while you’re at it. Comfort = cozy, and a good throw is definitely comfortable. And if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on throws, I highly recommend hitting up some local estate sales. Not only are you sure to find a few comfortable throw blankets, you’ll probably find a lot of good decor while you’re at it. It’s really a win win. Oh, and you get extra points if your throw blanket is a heated one.
A warm addition to your layers, would be a nice heating pad for your back, like this one by Renpho. I am obsessed with bundling up on my gaming chair, a warm blanket over me, and a heated blanket behind me while I play less-than-cozy games like Dead by Daylight (at the moment).
Another Renpho item that I will recommend every day of my life is the eye massager. I use to to get cozy and relax, and it’s a dream when I have a headache. I actually just gifted myself that one, but for the last four year I’ve been using this white one, but wore it out after using it almost every day.
Use diffusers, candles, or simmer pots with cozy scents like Vanilla, cinnamon, or pine. Most of the time, I’m using Airwicks or candles, but around Christmas and a month or two after, I love making simmer pots. I’ll prep some fruits for my daughter and myself, taking orange peels and apple skins off and putting them in the crockpot. I’ll add whatever amount of cinnamon I want, cloves, and some vanilla. I turn the crockpot on while my daughter and I enjoy our fruit snacks, the warm wintery scent soon filling the air. I’ll let that cook all day, filling the house with a scent that is sure to get you cozy.
Invest in a nice pair of slippers, and take care of them. I have the bad habit of getting slippers that I love (THESE), and then wearing them out to the chicken coop in a rush to feed or water my furry little dinosaurs. Then they get dirty, and I try to clean them, but I clean them wrong, and then they’re destroyed. I was gifted THESE by my mom for my birthday (December 8th, and I AM accepting late gifts, just FYI) and I love them. Now I have a specific pair of shoes that sit by my back door, my chicken shoes. It’s OK if they get dirty, it’s what they’re for.
Grab a cozy book. I recommend Divine Rivals, The Midnight Library (Trigger warning for that one, but it is beautifully written) or the classic Pride and Prejudice. Watch your comfort show, or a good cozy game, I recommend Stardew Valley (you can play in on console, PC, and even your phone), Animal Crossing, Disney Dreamlight Valley, or the Sims.
Make yourself a nice warm cup of tea. I love THIS and THIS. Or, in the winter, making a nice mixture with Apple Cider and caramel squares mixed into it!
